I am waiting for the day that we have super tiny power efficient GPS modules in these watches so that higher-end Casio Pathfinder or G-Shock models will automatically tell you sunrise/sunset time and tidal data no matter where you are without having to set the watch. How cool will that be? The implications are almost endless to the new functionality you could have in the watches. You see Bear thrashing the watch around and swimming with it. Being a G-Shock watch with its tough resin shell and 200 meters of water resistance, it can take just about anything. I know that Bear could have opted for a fancier G-Shock model, but I like that is chose a mid range one for his most recent set of adventures.
The Sparta 1 Tesla features the same winding system as the Orbita Sparta 1 Mini that I reviewed here. But the style and packaging of the Tesla is more luxurious, as well as modular. While the Sparta 1 Mini was a smaller unit, the Sparta 1 Tesla is a bit larger and can be situated in either a portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) position. This means that by getting multiple Sparta 1 Tesla units you can stack them, or place them closely next to each other if you get more than one of them. This would be difficult to do with the Sparta 1 Mini - even though it is a smaller item. As such, the Sparta Tesla is sized at 7 inches tall, 5.2 inches deep, and 4 inches wide. It is substantial in weight at 2.7 pounds, but needs to be to prevent falling over and damaging your watch. By the way, the "1" part of the name refers to the fact that it winds one watch. Orbita places the number of watches any particular product is meant to winder in the name of the item.
The MTG1100-1A features a lot more stainless steel in the construction that some of the other Casio G-Shock models that are mostly resin. This upgrades the look a lot. The pieces looks similar to some of the newer Casio Edifice pieces as well. It takes the G-Shock series in a welcome new direction. Giving you a new reason to notice the do anything, go anywhere watches. For whatever reason Casio didn't give me details about the size of the watch, or things like water resistance. Probably 200 meters for latter. Expect size to be on par with most other Casio G-Shock watches (not too big or too small - how is that for specific?). You know you want one - I sure do. I feel like each new Casio G-Shock watch I get helps repair my lost childhood dreams little by little (I felt like a tech starved youth!). The Casio G-Shock MT-G ref. MTG1100-1A should be available now for a retail price of 0 (street price likely a bit less).

This was an important article for me to write as the concept of luxury Japanese watches has been on my mind a lot lately. I think you'll find it an interesting read. It rather well accumulates my dispersed thoughts on this topic of global sold Japanese luxury watches and our perception on them.

Guess what, China could care less about intellectual property rights. So copyright, trademark, and patent in infringement is just a whim away most of the time. The watch industry has had to deal with this for many years when it comes to replica or fake watches, but there are also other types of trademark infringement situations such as this. Certain Chinese mobile phone makers like to attach high-end names to phone such as this "Rolex" mobile phone. Taking out the legal issues, this is a cute if not slightly pathetic looking homage to what Rolex might be as a phone maker. Who knows, after companies such as Tag Heuer and Ulysse Nardin have made luxury mobile phones, maybe Rolex will someday? How knows.
On the side of the watch you have a gold colored screw-down crown to wind the watch and adjust the time and date. This crown features the Edox logo: a stylized hourglass. A further two push buttons control the chronograph start-stop-reset functions.
Sometimes you just want a good reptile skinned watch, but they can be so hard to find. Why? Well us Americans get kind of bent out of shape about it. Yes, I am all for Animal rights. Frankly I would put Animals above humans in many regards, but when it comes to animals that are raised, just to be killed for their "parts," sure it is cruel, but it is not really damaging to the environment. It would be different if you had guys going out into the jungle to kill pythons just for their skin. That would be bad, really bad. But when you farm the creatures for it? Well then if you are against that, then you are against eating chickens (cause they are raised just to be killed too). I am now expecting a slew of angry e-mails and comments. Proceed please, I did put myself out there with the "I love sweet, sweet animal skins" commentary.
The tonneau case is very curved and looks put together well with the case back being screwed on. There are sapphire crystals not only on the front and rear of the watch, but also as windows on the side of the watch giving a view into the movement. Each of the watches will be in limited edition - not sure of the numbers of each. Also not sure about the price. Well over ,000 I would imagine.

A few weeks ago you may recall that I notified you that aBlogtoRead.com would be down for a bit. That was the first phase of the upgrades to make aBlogtoRead.com faster, and more powerful for you. Well that was a band-aid compared to what I am doing now. As such, I am undergoing a more intensive full web host migration. The site will be down a bit, can't say how long. No matter what, aBlogtoRead.com will be back and serious soon. Wish me luck!
As Fredrik Gisle from Ezteem watches put it "At a glance it seems simple and straight forward. Yet there are many details thoroughly planned, which makes the watch both bold and elegant. We hope this gives warmth to the owner, from a Sweden that is otherwise cold a large portion of the year."

A statement by Seuss indicates that he "[looks forward] to building the Company's reach as the world's leading watch authority." The implication is that he realizes Tourneau is not there right now. Bonus for them is that Tourneau has preexisting relationships with virtually all major watch brands as well as foot holds across the world. Tourneau also has a heavy amount of window and foot traffic. Let's just hope that someone realizes their sales people hiring and training practices need a serious overhaul.
We discuss some winners of the watch industry version of the Oscars, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve 2009. Winners included Richard Mille, Greubal Forsey, the Hublot Black Caviar million watch, Audemars Piguet and A. Lange & Sohne.
As I continue to review the watch I keep thinking about who a watch like this will appeal to the most. Many of us can agree that we like it, but would be wear it? Well, I sure would, but I don't think I do the watch justice. Maybe I need a nice bomber jacket and a retro convertible speeding over to my bi-plane waiting at the airfield - to feel like the watch is being well utilized from a lifestyle perspective. This means that the watch is flashy, just not in the typical way. It will get noticed, and it will get people thinking about the guy who literally has the world in his hand. The Magellan 1521 NH watch comes in a really nicely made and polished wood box - that I normally wouldn't mention, but the finish on the wood makes me happy. Price is about ,600 in steel. A cool and sophisticated watch that just may convince you to adapt your personality and lifestyle to wear it.

This is one of the few times I have seen a watch at auction and thought to myself "damn, I need to be there for that." This is the very ultra cool Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk watch. There are only six of these watches in the world, and Seiko made them to celebrate Richard Garriot's 'celebutrip' to the ISS (International Space Station) with the Russians. The story is actually kinda sad if you ask me. Richard Garriot became famous as a video game designer. Fame came with the Ultima series of computer RPG games, and most lately, the MMORPG game Tabula Rasa was supposedly interesting, but a flop. Anyone, Garriot become a millionaire and watches so much to go to space. His dad was an astronaut, and he just wanted the same thing for himself. Garriot reportedly spent the bulk of his fortune to get the Russians to take him to space. Lots of training and quasi-gulag living, and he did it. Maybe a bit anti-climactic... but maybe he can eventually turn it into another marketable game franchise.
[Ed. Note: I really like this Octea watch line. One that I am jealous is only for women (but take that comment for what it is worth). The type of timepieces that I would buy for a woman, for her to wear... so I could sort of enjoy it vicariously through her]
